Block constructed tourneys

Block constructed tourneys

Postby m8x115 » Sun Nov 15, 2009 11:56 am

I'm quite new to playing this game irl, but I've played online for over a year now. My favourite format at the moment is Zendikar block constructed but I can't find any tourneys posted on this site. Does anyone know if there is anywhere in Kent that I could find one?

Thanks
Max

Also, am I posting this in the correct forum?

Hi Max

Whilst on travels realised no one has replied.
Presently i don't think there are any block constructed torunaments.

Cannar wilm + and other peeps on the board will know better than i.
I'll try and get them to post an "offical" answer.

However, there are weekly standard tournaments who always apprecaite new players popping in.
And some of the players are actaully quite nice. (Emoticon banned - ed)

PS it is also possible to turn up and just play fun decks and not take part
in a tournament. This is a great way to learn the game and find your feet
in the magic world.

Hi Max,

I'm part of the old guard here, not one of the local TOs, but think that I can answer your question...

Block tournaments do happen in Kent, but they really only appear if they are linked to a PTQ or GPT or Cannar Wilm (aka Glen White local Level 3 Judge and supremo) has a spare Sunday slot that doesn't have one of the formentioned qualifier tournaments running and people don't want to play extended.

However, please turn up to a tournament/club night. The more the merry and if you give people enough warning they may turn up with block decks for you to play against.

Oh, and welcome to the Boards

Hi Max,

just to add to what has already been posted. We'd love to see you on a club night.

The reason no one is talking about block constructed right now is two-fold. The first has already been mentioned... there isn't any official tournaments for block constructed for a bit yet. The second is because block constructed tournaments tend to only occur when the block is more/fully developed. Usually this is after the release of the third set however this year it will be in February as 'Zendikar Block' only consists of Zendikar and Worldwake (released early Feb). At least this is the case for limited so I assume that it will also be the case for constructed too.

However, don't let that put you off. Come down anyway and you'll be able to get a game. You can play your block constructed deck against any other deck present even if it is out of format. Plus you can always draft if you wish.
Cheers
Glen

Actually, as announced on the mothership this morning, Zendikar block will be Zendikar, Worldwake and Rise of the Eldrazi. :D

Limited at this stage will only consist of Rise of the Eldrazi though as Glen stated above.

Typical :-)

I've had a look at the upcoming formats for the Grand Prix Trials and PTQs and none of them are Block Constructed however that doesn't mean that we won't run something in Gravesend if there is enough interest.

I would really love to attend a club however I live in Folkestone and Gravesend is really difficult for me to get to. Are there any other clubs run in Kent, I went to the Zen prerelease at the Style and Winch in Maidstone but don't really know much about the regularity of events there.

thanks Max

Hi Max

You are in luck, there are a few magic players in Folkestone (including me). So if you want to come to any of the tournaments a lift is almost certainly available.

I wont be able to make it to Maidstone this sunday but I might be able to make it to Canterbury this thursday. Will it be casual games or are there drafts and stuff as well?

thanks

The plan is that this coming Thursday will be testing/casual and the following Thursday will be a draft.
